The Shawshank Redemption was actually a short story written by Stephen King and it was originally called 'Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption' which was from a collection called 'Different Seasons' and came out in 1982. For me The Shawshank Redemption has to be the best film of all time. Why? It has everything, and then goes onto the best ending I think I have ever witnessed in any film, you will never relent from being drawn into this film if it ever happens to be showing on the TV if you are skipping channels; do try and refrain but you know you will never! The Shawshank Redemption goes the extra mile and then some, which leads me to describe my second best film which has to be The Green Mile. The film has got to be one of the most extraordinary and moving films I have seen with a storyline that although you get the idea of what the story is about in the first few minutes, it just takes you to so many different places! This Stephen King book came out in 1996 and was actually released in 6 low priced paperback volumes; to think this now makes me scratch my head, as this is the work of genius and the movie itself certainly extends that finding! The Green Mile which along with The Shawshank Redemption is set in a prison but with both having no other similarities at all, apart from being both literally and cinematic majestic creations. If you have not seen or read these 2 films/books, I can only suggest you do so, at your earliest convenience. |
