Interview by Carl Marsh - June 2014

Hi Mary,
can I say a big thank you for helping me to promote reading and to encourage more to read, by doing this interview? Encouraging reading is so important, and can easily be overlooked with so many choices available today. Reading exercises our brains, and actually builds new connections. I really believe that reading has had a big impact on my life. I have been privileged with a wonderful education and teachers, who have encouraged me all along the way. I believe reading regularly helps to develop empathy because, you’re identifying with the character in the story, so you’re feeling what he’s feeling. Such a great gift. What advice would you give to your fans/followers in that it is important to read? My advice to my followers is to always be yourself, and don't base what you do on other peoples opinions of you. Put aside time to read, and find out what else is going on in the world. You can learn so much from a book. I do believe that it is also a stress reliever, losing yourself in a book helps me to escape from the worries and stresses of the everyday world, while spending time exploring the authors imagination. What is the best book you have ever read, and why is that? I'm a big fan of the Hunger Games series. My favorite book out of the trilogy is probably Catching Fire! I love the book because I enjoy the relationship between Peeta and Katniss. I also enjoy books that are made into movies. Of course, I would never see the movie without reading the book first. I usually find that even though the movie was entertaining I enjoy the book just a little bit more. What are you currently reading at the moment, or have just finished? I just finished reading Anthem by Ayn Rand. It was a pretty good book that takes place in a Utopian society. It focuses on discovery and curiosity of a human in a society where everything is "equal". I would recommend it. "If you had to choose between acting and singing, which would you choose?" Honestly, I love both singing and acting! My dream would be to do something involving both because I have been singing for a very long time, and I truly have a passion for singing, but I also have a passion for acting! You are a singer and an actor, which I hear you got into when you were aged 3! You also have your own band with many of your fans reading this no doubt! I am so thankful to all my fans for the support they give me, and for the opportunities that I have been given. I am currently working with my own original music, which I perform while I am doing gigs as well as some cover songs. I have had the blessing of playing some awesome venues these last couple of years, and look forward to many more. I have watched your band and your own YouTube videos; you (and the band) are brilliant. I have been fortunate to be able to express myself through music. I would have to say my favorite music video at this time is my cover of “Brave”. I was inspired to tell a story with this video that encourages anti-bulling, and it means a lot to me, as I am a big advocate of this area. As I mentioned earlier, you started singing aged 3, so how have you stayed motivated after all this time dedicated to your passion? Well, the first thing that motivated me to start singing was the movie "The Little Mermaid". I was obsessed, and I would watch part of your world on repeat, so I could learn all the words to the song. That year at Christmas, I sang it for all my family, and after that I begged my mom to put me in a singing group. I would say my motivation for continuing with singing is just the amazing feeling that you get when you know you're making your audience happy, for a little part of their day! As you are someone that has grasped social media and utilized it to it's full potential, what advice would you offer to anyone thinking of doing what you have, with your singing? My advice is, just don't be afraid to get the word out there! If you want to be a singer, then follow your heart! You need to get yourself heard no matter where it is. Find your own style, and create your own material. Most record labels won't take the time to listen to a demo full of covers. This is why I'm so excited to come out with my EP this summer. Last, it is a lot of work and dedication, so keep that in mind if you are trying to make a career out of performing. If you are willing to work hard, go for it! In the next 12 months, what does the future hold for you, or what do you want to happen? Well like I said, I have my EP coming soon, so that's very exciting and I also have some other amazing opportunities coming my way, like working with an anti-bullying campaign, and some other things that are still in the works. Hoping to get some of my original music out there, and continue to perform. Also being signed to a record label would be a dream come true, so wish me luck! If you could be an animal, what would it be, and why? I would probably want be a dolphin, because dolphins are awesome, and they do cool tricks. Or, some kind of bird, because I would love to fly. Thanks for your time Mary, I wish you greater success, and thanks for helping me to inspire more to read too! Carl A big thank you to you Carl, for allowing me to share my thoughts, and I would also like to thank God, my fans, family and all the people who helped me to get to where I am today.
