Interview by Carl Marsh - March 2015

To start the interview, how did you guys get together to form Remedy?
Group: We were quite lucky really, Tom & Lew met on the X Factor as soloists and when they left the show, they wanted to put a band together. We knew Leon from gigs and events around the country, and eventually, we found Paddy on YouTube! It's not easy with us all living in different areas, but we make it work! Have you all always wanted to be singers, or had you others plans before you started on this journey? Leon: I come from a really musical family but initially my passion was football; I used to play for Norwich’s academy. I was told I was too small for my age to keep going, and it was a blessing in disguise because that’s when I started doing music! Paddy: I used to play a lot of tennis when I was younger. I played internationally from a young age but always had a passion for music, and eventually it prevailed! Lewis: I’ve always loved music, when I was younger I loved playing the guitar. I always wanted to play in a rock band when I was little, then I started singing too! Tommy: I loved singing from an early age but I never really had the confidence to do it, I kept improving and after a while there was nothing else I wanted to do in life. I also played competitive darts before! As you know, I promote reading by doing these interviews, so for all four of you, why is reading an important thing that we should all do? Group: Well, to read is to learn! The more you read the more you know, and the better you write! It's also really cool to see some young people still picking up books and reading them in their own time, especially in an age where people spend so long on their phones & social networks! Can I ask what each of you what your favourite book is, and why is that? Paddy: Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe, because I was always pressured to read books when I was younger, and that was the first I picked up off my own accord and genuinely enjoyed! Lewis: The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown because of the way it mixes history and fiction, definitely worth a read! Leon: Holes by Louis Sachar, I remember reading it in school and I’ve never enjoyed a book as much since! Tommy: Stone Cold by Robert Swindells, it was the book that made me realize how absorbing reading can be! With your music, what can we expect from you guys in the next 12 months? Group: We want to keep developing our R&B/Pop sound - it'd be really cool to get Leon rapping on the songs a bit more! We want to put out a lot of covers and our first bits of original material too. We're planning on moving in together this year, so we're hoping that'll be productive and not destructive. What musical act(s) inspire you, and why is that? Paddy: Michael Jackson! His music is powerful; more than people we listen to today, and he's a great performer! I’m also into The Beatles, Rod Stewart and a band from California called Emblem3! Leon: I always loved N-Dubz and Professor Green, initially I was only a rapper so I looked up to them loads. Even before that though I used to love Gareth Gates! Lewis: These days I love listening to R&B like Trey Songz and Rick Ross! But I also like listening to great guitar orientated artists like Eric Clapton. Tommy: Ed Sheeran! I find the story about how he got to the top really inspiring. He’s such a versatile artist and his songwriting is genius! Have you any funny stories you can tell me for this website, perhaps any that they may have not heard before, that have happened whilst in the group? Group: Too many to remember! Being on the road together is so fun because we're constantly messing with each other. One time the person driving us to our gig stopped our van on a hill outside a service station. He knew what we're like so he took the keys with him into the shop; while he was in there we took off the hand break and rolled the car down the hill! When he came back we were just standing there and the car was gone. His face was priceless! If you could only make it big in one of these, which would you choose, “UK or USA” – and why? Group: That is really tough! A dream of ours has always been to tour America. Although America has more people who could hear our music, our following in the UK is really awesome and they deserve to see us blow up one day! We honestly couldn't decide! You must be travelling quite a lot, what home comfort do you miss the most when you are away from home? Group: We miss our beds and some nice home cooking mostly. But luckily we get on with each other really well, so travelling is fun. Last question, and a fan favourite, “If you could be an animal/creature/bird, what would it be, and why”? Paddy: I’d go with bird but I think it’s a little obvious! I’m going to roll with crab. It’s my star sign and I love water, so why not! Leon: Definitely a monkey, I think it’s cool how they run around on all fours, can climb and have amazing body strength! Tommy: A giraffe! I’ve always had trouble with my vision and it’d be nice to just be able to see everything for a change, they always have a decent view of everything! Lewis: I’d be a lion! Who wouldn’t want to be king of the jungle? Remedy @RemedyMusic |
