Interview by Carl Marsh - May 2015

So Tony, it's been 12 months since our last interview, what have you been up to?
Hello Carl! I know man, it's crazy how fast it's gone. I've been up to ‘A LOT’, I mean my life took a turn personally from which I learned a lot and grew as an individual, but I've been starting Vine videos, finishing my second year of uni, still making youtube videos and starting to get myself in the music scene! With your song writing/music, I would have never guessed this was something you had a passion for, and even were contemplating pursuing it, was it your ambition all along, even when you were, and still are, doing your Youtube videos? I know, me neither! To be honest I've always written poems and stuff since I could write from like 4 or 5, and I used to write for competitions and win them and stuff, and as I grew up I really started enjoying music...dancing to good music, listening all the time to relax me but it's never something I saw myself getting in to personally, as I never saw myself as a singer nor musically-able individual. But through my emotional experiences the last year I just wrote more poems but to melodies, and that's when I started writing songs as such with verses, bridges and choruses and I have at least 100 in my iPhone notes now! I've met a lot of crazy talented music artists and I definitely prefer that creative side to the YouTube filming side, ‘HOWEVER’, my passion always lies with entertaining people so I still love making videos, as with Vine too, just uni has kept me back from this. But I'm working on exciting things musically with myself and others, and people will be surprised and excited towards the end of this year. Can you tell me who you have been writing music for, and I know you say you perform yourself also, is this going well? Currently a secret but they're all a talented bunch which I'll maybe secretly let you in on privately. But yeah, I'm performing as such and I am working on my vocals and a lot with the music I am writing, so hopefully I will perform more in the future different styles of music so we'll see how that goes, I much prefer the creative side of music, with the producing and writing for now though. Social Media, still such an important part of your life I see, but do you think you will ever get bored of it? ‘NEVER!’ I love it, I mean if you don't use it for what you and I use it for, many youngsters and older generation individuals don't understand social media, how it can take up so much of someone's life, but when it's making my career, I'm making people smile, I get to share my emotions and feelings to 10's of thousands of people every day, and it's something you can't have too much of! How is University going, still glad you did the course that you are on? It's okay! A lot of work and hard now, but a degree is a degree and no-one will ever take that from me. It's fine, I'm not really doing university to particularly enjoy it, but more so I have a backup certificate in my life in case my first choice plan doesn't work out, but also, I've learned some valuable life skills at university such as time management, controlling my emotions, managing workload and how to keep quiet when someone is annoying you! And why should others follow you down the path of higher education? I don't believe people should follow me down it as such, it's a very individual kind of thing. Youngsters feel pressured to go into higher education by family members, teachers etc when in fact it may not the be right option. If you want to be like me, have a back up, gain some life skills and a bit more knowledge, it's great. If you want to be a doctor or a massive neuro-scientist, you gotta go to uni. But if you've got only one thing you wanna pursue and you know that for a fact, just stick to that and work your butt off to get there. I would recommend further education because the world is becoming more competitive every day, so having a unique selling point is valuable, but only you can judge whether 3/4 years and £50,000 debt is worth it for you, its important to communicate with family and teachers for this though, I was lost at 17/18, so I know how difficult it is. Have you had much chance to read much over the last 12 months since our last interview, as I bet the song writing must have taken over your life? I've been reading a lot for university if that counts! Constant articles, books, journals etc its crazy! With the song writing it's a lot of words, but words make me whole and are what separates us from being strangers to friends to lovers, so I believe reading various styles of words is important to growth as an entity in the world. You described yourself as an anxiety ball to me before, is this still the case, and why is this? I beat it. I used to be very anxious, as a teen growing up I was too nervous at times to leave the house, to eat out, to be with a group of people. (Hard to believe I know!!). But with what I have been doing the last year, it's forced me out of my comfort zone, do things I never thought I would do, be out of the house every day, travel everywhere with various modes of transport with seconds between 2 trains I have to catch. I guess what I'm saying is to those reading this: If you suffer from anxiety, it's okay. It will be okay. Life will throw things at you that will force you to one day forget you even had anxiety and that's the truth. I'll always be an anxious type, like I over think, analyse, stress out easily, worry so much... that's me and that's nothing to be ashamed of, but anxiety ball? I'm much stronger now and everyone grows a tougher bone as they experience more. Fast forward another 12 months, what do you aim to aspire? Wow. I don't know, 12 months ago I probably would have thought that I would have been forgotten about on the internet! I would like to accomplish something strong within music, be successfully completing my degree, making creative art in various forms of mediums, and still happy. Will we ever see Tony Wedral on The Voice or The X-Factor? Ha! Unless I join a boyband where we have a mix of voices because my vocals are not naturally strong enough as a solo, then maybe... but other than that, I think I will stick to producing top quality music for others, and of my own voice, with good auto-tune techniques without the temporary fame of a talent show most probably embarrassing myself! Maybe on other shows though.......! Your fan base is strong, so I guess they will support you no matter what you end up doing in life, any words for them? They already know how much they mean to me and I'll always tell them. They're there for me no matter what, and it's crazy how dedicated a bunch of teenagers can be. I just want to thank you all for everything, and the things I do from this moment on are all for you to be able to show off your pride for me and supporting me from the start. You're all wicked and you all know that I'm always here for you too! Would you still like to be a koala bear? You know what Carl, I would still ‘LOVE’ to be a koala bear! Tony @tonywedral |
